Our Commitment
The illegal exploitations on mining cause serious social and environmental issues in some regions, and among those regions the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Democratic Republic of the Congo, DR Congo) faces the world’s most serious conflict. These valuable metals (tantalum, tin, gold, tungsten) are used in many industries and consumer products, including electronics. To the extent these minerals are found to be financing armed activities, these four minerals are commonly referred to as “conflict minerals”.
PROFITAP does not directly purchase any of the mineral described above, however, we are still committed to uphold our social responsibility and deliver our practices to our supply chain. Therefore, in 2014, we conducted an investigation on the usage of and the source of the metals in the product, as well as the conditions under which metals were mined. The metals in the investigation include tungsten, tantalum, tin and gold. The result showed that the sources of the minerals were not from DR Congo or from illegal exploitations.
PROFITAP is willing to cooperate with the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct (EICC) and Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) to investigate on the mineral sources for the electronics industry as well as to communicate with other relevant groups and organizations that have concerns on this issue. We require our suppliers to comply with PROFITAP Conflict Mineral requirements. PROFITAP suppliers Conflict Mineral requirements:
PROFITAP will not accept illegally mined minerals and minerals from mines with inferior working conditions. PROFITAP suppliers are expected to make sure that the products they are supplying to PROFITAP are DR Congo conflict-free and do not contain metals derived from minerals that directly or indirectly finance or benefit armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or an adjoining country.
